Listing Description:
The Cape George Trail is situated in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, and presents a collection of interconnected loops and linear sections along the Cape George peninsula, which overlooks St. George’s Bay. The trail comprises of 7 looped trails, ranging from 2-12 km in distance, and 5 point-to-point trails, covering distances of 7-21 km. Several walking bridges are also available to cross brooks and streams. The trail offers a total of 29 km of coastal trails, 6 km of river valleys, and 3 km of shoreline paths.
The Cape George Heritage Trails, spanning 37 km, were created by local trail builder Peter Jackson. The degree of hiking difficulty ranges from easy to challenging, making it suitable for all types of hikers. You can enjoy a natural “Bubbling Spring,” waterfalls, coastal walks, beach strolls, geo-caching, or take a rest on benches placed by loved ones throughout the trail, honouring heritage families.
The Cape George Lighthouse is just a short walk away. You can access the trailheads at Cape George Day Park, Cape George Heritage School, and Ballantyne’s Cove Wharf. There are maps at all trailheads, but they are not necessary because the trail is lettered, and there is a map at each intersection to guide you. With something for everyone, the Cape George Trail is a must-visit.
